Sunday 18th September
Festival Day at Diggle Tunnel Tip

The events will culminate with a spectacular Festival Day at 'Diggle Tunnel Tip'.

The celebration will feature the premier of a specially commissioned outdoor theatre production and boat trips into the famous Standedge Tunnel.

On site, there will be two marquees; one for local crafts and the other for children's activities with the popular Oldham Play Action Group.

Refreshments will be provided by Manns Wharf Catering and local ice cream specialists Grandpa Greene's.  There will be a bouncy castle, climbing wall and performances from Diggle Band (activities free of charge).  A wood bodger, cueball crazy pool game challenge and local community groups will also be on display and of course, the Huddersfield Canal Society!

To mark the 200th Anniversary, Oldham Theatre Workshop have been commissioned to perform an outdoor theatre production, repeated during the day.  Join the performance and learn the story of the Huddersfield Canal, meeting characters from the Canal's past, present and future!  Suitable for all ages and free of charge; listen for announcements for the start of a performance.

British Waterways will be at the Festival with their public trip boat offering trips in and out of the Standedge Tunnel from the Diggle end on the Festival Sunday.   The trips will operate hourly, on the hour, from 11am to 4pm inclusive.

The following charges will apply and you should buy your tickets in advance from the Canal Society stand.

Boat Gathering
Coinciding with the Festival Day at 'Diggle Tunnel Tip' on Sunday 18th September, over that weekend a Boat Gathering will take place on the adjacent summit pound. We are giving you plenty of notice of this so that boating members can plan accordingly.

Download the leaflet that gives details of this event by clicking here. The leaflet can be printed out if required and the application form posted back to us if you wish to attend with a boat.

So far, 14 boats have booked in for the Event, so there will be plenty of interest on the canal and one of the boats will be featured in a scene during the Oldham Theatre Workshop performances.
